Shea Butter: has a high level of cinnamic acid, a natural sun screen. It contains unsaturated fats with a large proportion of “unsaponifiables” components, essential fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamin E and D, provitamin A and allantoin.
Sal Butter: (Shorea Robusta Seed Butter) is obtained from the seed of the Sal Tree grown in east central India. From this seed a firm but pliant ͞butter͞ is rendered that due to its uniform Triglyceride composition, exhibits high oxidative and emulsion stability, and good skin softening ability. It is easily absorbed leaving a velvety touch on skin. It contains mostly Stearic (40%) and Oleic (40%) fatty acids and at a smaller percentage linoleic (4%) and palmitic (14%). The remaining percentage of active components includes: phytosterols which improve skins barrier function and microcirculation, terpene alcohols with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action, squalene which helps regenerate the lipid ‘cement’ of the stratum corneum. Sal butter offers a low level of UV protection (approximately SPF 6).
