Alkanna Tinctoria from Crete Island

Alkanna tinctoria is a herb in the borage family, native in the Mediterranean region. The extract derived from its root gives an impressive vibrant red colour with miraculous rebirth properes on human skin. Alkanna has a long history of medicinal use and was described by Hippocates, more than 2000 years ago for the treatment of ulcers. It is known to have antibacterial properties and is used in folk medicine in the treatment of skin wounds. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and strong anti-aging activity.

Hero Ingredients

Alkanna: Although the healing properties of Alkanna tinctoria have been known since ancient times, it was only in 1978 that they were confirmed experimentally, and the active ingredients were identified. The effectiveness ofAlkannin in cases of wound, wound and ulcer healing has been absolutely proven for decades. Biological studies carried out over the last 40 years have proven that the oily extract of the roots of Alkanna tinctoria has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antineoplastic activity. But the most important and mostinteresting property of alkanin and shikonin is its healing effect. What this means for healthy skin is that histologically it boosts angiogenesis, enhances collagenproduction, promotes epithelial thickness while removing inflammation and oxidation.

Mastic Oil: On the island of Chios, Greece, ancient trees produce a resin which drops from thetrunk into the shape of tears. Tears of Chios have endless cosmetic and medicinalproperties. Once crystallized, they are used for the production of our active ingredient: LAKESIS.|
It is called that way, from the name of the goddess who measures lifespan. LAKESIS increases the synthesis of two youth proteins: KLOTHO and FOXO. 54year old fibroblasts recover characteristics of 37year old fibroblasts. Cellular detoxification processes are reactivated, their global cellular activity is increased, and we observe a redensification of the dermis in fibrillin and collagen fibers. The Result: Redensified, the skin looks younger, thicker and facial contours appear to be redrawn.

Natural Stem Cells: Complex of botanical extracts that mimics the action of hematopoietic adult stem cells. This means that they can act more quickly and effectively on the parts of the dermis that have suffered some damage. It is a fermentation of the gooseberry, marjoram, sea buckthorn and green tea plants with yeast, which maximizes the bio-availability of their plant compounds such as polyphenols (e.g. catechins) and flavonoids (e.g. quercetin). These elements have a catalytic effect on the skin, helping to regenerate it and activating the natural anti-aging mechanisms.

Under My Skin

What is skin regeneration?

Skin regeneration refers to the natural process by which the skin repairs and replaces damaged or lost tissue. The skin is the largest organ of the human body and serves as a protective barrier against external threats such as pathogens, chemicals, and physical damage. Skin regeneration is crucial for maintaining the integrity and function of this barrier.

How skin regeneration typically occurs in healthy skin?

  1. Epidermal Renewal: The epidermis is primarily composed of keratinocytes, which are constantly replenished through a process called epidermal renewal. In the basal layer of the epidermis, stem cells divide and differentiate into keratinocytes. These cells then migrate upwards through the layers of the epidermis, undergoing various changes in morphology and function. Eventually, they reach the outermost layer, the stratum corneum, where they are shed from the skin surface in a process known as desquamation.
  2. Wound Healing: In the event of injury or damage to the skin, wound healing mechanisms are activated to repair the damaged tissue. This process involves inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling, as described in the previous response. In healthy skin, wound healing typically occurs efficiently, with minimal complications such as infection or excessive scarring.
  3. Maintenance of Skin Barrier: Healthy skin maintains a strong and effective barrier function, which is essential for protecting the body against environmental insults, pathogens, and moisture loss. This barrier function is primarily attributed to the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the epidermis, which consists of densely packed, keratin-rich cells embedded in a lipid matrix. The stratum corneum acts as a waterproof barrier, preventing dehydration and entry of harmful substances into the body.
  4. Regulation by Skin Microbiota: The skin is home to a diverse community of microorganisms collectively known as the skin microbiota. These microorganisms play a crucial role in maintaining skin health by modulating immune responses, competing with pathogenic bacteria for resources, and contributing to the maintenance of skin barrier function. In healthy skin, a balanced microbiota helps support optimal skin regeneration and overall skin health.

How Alkanna Tinctoria regenerates skin?

Alkanna tinctoria contains various bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds, which may contribute to its potential effects on the skin. Some of these compounds have been studied for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, which are important for supporting skin health and regeneration.

  1. Antioxidant Properties: Antioxidants help protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals, which can damage skin cells and contribute to premature aging. Alkanna tinctoria contains phenolic compounds and flavonoids that possess antioxidant activity, potentially aiding in the protection of skin cells from oxidative damage.
  2. Anti-inflammatory Effects: Inflammation plays a significant role in various skin conditions, including wounds and dermatitis. Certain components of Alkanna tinctoria may exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, which could help reduce inflammation and promote a more favorable environment for skin regeneration.
  3. Antimicrobial Activity: Alkanna tinctoria has been traditionally used as an antimicrobial agent. Its antimicrobial properties may help prevent or treat skin infections, which can impair the skin's ability to regenerate properly.
  4. Wound Healing: While direct evidence on the wound-healing effects of Alkanna tinctoria is limited, some studies suggest that certain compounds found in the plant may promote wound healing by enhancing tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation.
